A little note about why I’m building Pencyl.
Dear students, parents
and teachers,
I want every student to have a place to begin with AI. A place to ask the simple questions, try something unfamiliar and discover what they can make.
I’m building Pencyl because I don’t want a student to step into the future thinking, “I never had the chance to learn this.” AI is becoming part of the world they will grow into. Understanding it should feel within reach.
School gives us a foundation. Curiosity takes us beyond the syllabus. “How does this work?” “Can I build my own?” Those questions deserve room, patient guidance and a little courage to get things wrong.

At Pencyl, my plan is to start with the basics, explore different AI tools and turn learning into small, useful projects. I want students to explain what they’ve made, check their work and feel proud of the thinking behind it.

That means learning with boundaries: protecting private information, checking answers, testing code and being honest about AI assistance. It means following teachers’ rules and using age-appropriate tools with guidance.
Penny will help with a question, a hint or a step that feels difficult. Projects and collaboration will give students reasons to keep trying. Weekly updates and monthly reports will help families stay close to the journey.
My hope is simple. A student should leave saying, “I understand a little more. I know what to question. And I have something I want to build.” That confidence can grow with them, long after a course ends.
Season 1 is our first chapter. I’m looking forward to the questions, the experiments and all the ideas students will bring to it.
